With any civilization, there is a pecking order and sense of superiority
that can’t be undone until those involved are forced to look at more the
outside of what is truly unknown. Katara from the Claw Kindred was
attacked and left for dead by a pack of Fang Kindreds. Hart, Kindred from
the Antlers, couldn’t find himself to leave her dying in the woods even
though his kind looked upon hers and nothing more than mere barbarians.
With far more advanced technology at his fingertips he’s able to ensure
she heals but the politics involved with bringing a claw to his well
protected community he is now forced to imprison the woman he rescued.
Taught to have disdain for what she considers the weakest of the Kindred
clans, Katara is less than happy about her imprisonment. As they learn
about each other and their perspective clans through day-to-day
interaction they both attempt to clear their own prejudices they will have
any hope of gathering their kind to fight a mutual enemy.
I’m continually amazed at the ingenuity that it takes to be a good
author. Deer never looked so good! Hart a stag shifter with his light
hearted ways and caring personality was the embodiment of a “real” man.
Even with his arrogance, he is one of the best products of nepotism I’ve
read about. All that he has been given and within the primarily peaceful
environment he lives in, the final product is a strong, intelligent
shifter, with a keen insight to living beyond his bestial side. Totally
opposite in nature is Katara; hell on wheels would be a mild description
of the feline shifter who lives in a more vicious world of perceived honor
and fighting to the death. These two still make a mighty couple and show
in the end mutual respect and love is all you need to make it. This is an
interesting story that leaves with the possibility of a great series for
romance readers to enjoy.
