A very long time ago, an innocent child was murdered by a drunken teenager, driving a red mustang. The fatal accident was covered up, but the teenager now a man never forgot it. It was always on his conscience, and on the anniversary of that day he remembers it clearly. He tries to drown his sorrows with alcohol, however this anniversary is little different and is time for payback. The man never imagines how horrible revenge will be after all this time.

Purgatory is a very emotionally moving and sad story to read. The man that the story about is still wrecked with guilt over killing a young child and hiding the accident. He was fearful over going to jail like his father had. What happens to him left me with a very heavy heart. Just the concept that this could possibly happen gave me the chills. If anything this story could serve as a wake up call for those that indulge in drinking and driving. Purgatory is a powerful, short story that everyone should read in my opinion. This would also prove to be a very good class room discussion story for English or literature classes.
