Phaeryn has come to earth in search of a human
female to bear his children. When his cousin brings him to the Red Light
club Phaeryn finds he is less than enthused with the ambiance of the club
and the selection of women. Despite his misgivings Phaeryn sends out a
psychic call confident he won't find a petite, docile woman able to hear
his call.
Kayla is minding her own business when she hears
this bewitching mental call. She follows the thread to a man who is
readying himself to leave. As he peers at Kayla, she is able to hear his
thoughts and is less than happy to hear that she isn't exactly what he is
looking for; in fact, she is the polar opposite.
Phaeryn doesn't like Kayla's outspoken,
self-assured attitude or his physical attraction to her but hopes to
subvert her will, thus making her his Vampyryn mate. Kayla is aggrieved
because she finds Phaeryn attractive, yearning for his sexual attentions
despite knowing he is rude, arrogant, and cares little for her feelings.
Kayla and Phaeryn are strong, independent, and
self-assured characters. Phaeryn is charismatic but has a lot to learn
with regards to that old proverbial saying, "Don't judge a book by its
cover," or in this case, a woman by her outward appearance. (Smile) Kayla
is used to coming up short when compared to other women, thus she's easily
hurt. She's learned to put on a brave front, sticking up for herself, and
is a deeply passionate woman. The sexual tension between these two is
obvious from the get go and explodes off the pages each time they come
together. Ms. Evans's, Night Stalker is a short enjoyable erotic
paranormal read for those who like vampire books.
