LeAnne McVeigh is a detective in a small town called Henry County. It is
not easy being a woman detective in a town that would rather a man did the
job. The one safe comfort in her life is being engaged to the local
prosecutor, Chad Baker. Chad is quite a good looking catch of the town,
plus has always been there for LeAnne when she needed him. He is the type
who would give her a marriage based on mutual respect, friendship and
lukewarm desire. LeAnne's life changes when a serial killer begins
knocking off beautiful, married woman during sex. Prime suspect is biker
Marcus Gallego and to complicate matters LeAnne can't stop being sexually
attracted to him, even though he might be the killer.
Marcus Gallego has never had an easy life. As a young child, he was
abandoned by his mother, just his father who tried to do his best to raise
him but always had to work. The most important thing in Marcus's life is
his Harley Davidson and the person that rocked his world was his
beautiful, unfaithful wife Jullian Gallego. When his wife is found
murdered, he becomes the number one suspect. All the DNA and clues point
to Marcus, despite his denials. His only salvation for freedom is in the
hands of the gorgeous homicide detective LeAnne. She is willing to help
him, but their mutual attraction keeps getting in the way. He knows if he
succeeds in seducing LeAnne, he's going to have one angry prosecutor after
him. One thing he truly does not need. Although he might need LeAnne's
heart more then anything?
The victims are starting to pile up and LeAnne is at a loss of who the
real killer is. In some ways, it does lead to him, but other clues begin
to complicate the case. LeAnne is pressured by her fiancé to wrap things
up and blame Marcus. She refuses to be bullied into putting a possibly
innocent man to prison for something he might not have committed. When
more suspects start popping up, LeAnne is aghast as who might truly be the
sick killer. The plot becomes more intense, and in the end Marcus and
LeAnne's lives will never be the same.
The Kiss of Deceit will keep readers in constant suspicion and confusion.
I was never certain who the killer was, and the ending took me completely
by surprise. In my opinion, the ending is a bit of a cliffhanger for the
next book, “Eyes of Betrayal" a sequel that may answer some of the
questions I had from the conclusion of this novel. I definitely will read
it. Patricia Rasey is an author who knows how to work circles around the
reader and make them read it nonstop till the final page. Wonderful job!
