Sending herself through law school by stripping in the evenings, Ameril Haverton is a woman alone in the world except for a couple of people she only trust so much and a best friend who is busy with the new love of her life. After making a shocking proposal to Jake Macmillan one night in a fit of impetuousness Ameril has been fighting herself and him every since. Still living the nightmare of a submissive relationship gone bad, she is scared of the consequences being with him will bring. Already in love and knowing what he wants, Jake immediately begins to take control and maneuver Ameril to where he wants her providing tremendous pressure to force her into accepting what they have. Not one to fall in line easily and too scared to accept what her body and mind are yearning for, the uphill battle that these two face will determine if they will both be destroyed by the demons of her past.

A man who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, an unbendable will and the need to dominate as much as his need to breathe, Jake is a force that would leave most women running for the hills. Coming across at times as being somewhat of a domineering pig, the one thing that is evident is that he really cares for Ameril and is in tune with her body’s desires. Too bad her mind isn’t always in agreement with what they both want. After bearing the brunt of a Dom’s abuse, she is no more than a broken being unable to get past all her life’s hurts and the pain of losing faith in her ability to find someone who will really cherish her.

If the dedication of this book means this guy was meant to be more heavy-handed than he appeared from the first page until close to the end then I shudder to think of how he might have been. Thankfully the author was able to take a male most women couldn’t handle and make him into a lovable creature even when he was being obstinate. Not a relationship most of us will ever get a chance to experience but one that tugged at my heartstrings. The evolution of these two was rather volatile and will undoubtedly have a few readers gasping but like myself will win you over when the emotional bonds glare brightly the more and more you examine the relationship. I look forward to future endeavors from this author.
